At 48 mm wide, the Hatcher Pass hits the sweet spot between narrow gravel tire (38 mm) and mountain bike volume (55 mm) – ideal for the latest generation of gravel and all-road bikes. Named after Lael Wilcox’s favorite road in Alaska, this tire perfect for Hatcher Pass: The front side of the climb is paved and leads to Independence Mine (an abandoned gold mine that is now a state park). Wide enough to handle any adventure, but narrow enough to fit into most gravel bikes. Juniper Ridge is a rough trail on the Dark Divide in the center of the Cascade Mountains. To reach this remote destination, you want a fast tire that gets you there. When you’re actually climbing Juniper Ridge, you need excellent grip and ample volume to cope with the rugged nature of this trail. The Juniper Ridge’s large knobs don’t squirm and offer excellent performance and cornering on paved roads, yet they are spaced widely to dig into the surface when it gets slippery. At 48 mm wide, the Oracle Ridge hits the sweet spot between narrow gravel tire (38 mm) and mountain bike volume (55 mm) – ideal for the latest generation of gravel and all-road bikes. We’ve developed the Oracle Ridge together with bikepacking legend Lael Wilcox, and we’ve named it after one of Lael’s favorite routes: Oracle Ridge is a beautiful gravel climb outside Tucson, AZ, which connects to the backside of Mount Lemmon for an ultra-fast descent on pavement. On the gravel climb, this tire grips tenaciously thanks to its large and widely spaced knobs. On the descent, it corners like a slick thanks to its large and strategically placed knobs that don’t squirm and always put the same amount of rubber on the road. The Oracle Ridge features our noise cancellation technology. The staggered tread blocks create overlapping noise frequencies that partially cancel each other. The Oracle Ridge’s speed, grip and lack of noise make you forget you’re riding a knobby – until you hit some loose or muddy ground and appreciate the extra grip. The Orondo Grade is a modern tubeless road tire with the performance, comfort and ride feel that our Rene Herse tires are famous for. It’s rated to a max. pressure of 90 psi (6.2 bar)—enough for heavy riders and those who prefer a stiffer feel to their bikes. A high-tech liner keeps our supple casings airtight without making the tire stiff and sluggish. For our Orondo Grade tires, we also use an extra-strong bead material—the strongest that’s available today. This material costs a lot more. It ensures that the tire stays on the rim even at relatively high pressures. Many other companies use a hybrid bead that consists mostly of less-strong Kevlar. This is significantly less expensive, but doesn’t offer the same margin of safety. We name our tires after the roads that inspire them: Orondo Grade is a 7-mile 10% climb up a side canyon of the mighty Columbia River. The Orondo Grade was the half-way point—and often decisive climb—of the near-mythical, long-defunct 285-mile cross-state race, S2S ‘Seattle-to-Spokane.’ Snaking up a canyon carved into basalt cliffs, the Orondo Grade is hot and barren—a true test of endurance. (The photo shows Jan in the early 2000s leading the race up the Orondo Grade.) The supple casing of Rene Herse all-road tires rolls smoothly over surface irregularities. The tread pattern interlocks with the road surface for superior cornering grip, wet or dry. The tread has enough thickness in the center to last thousands of miles, but it’s thin and supple on the shoulders where it doesn’t wear. On older, narrow, non-tubeless rims (Mavic MA-2 or similar), the rim well is not deep enough to mount tires without stretching the bead—but the innovative bead of the Orondo Grades does not stretch, so they can be very hard to mount on these rims.

Inspired by the legendary Oregon Outback and named after the first climb of that epic 360-mile gravel ride/race, the Switchback Hill is the world’s lightest, fastest and most comfortable ultra-wide 650B tire. On the Oregon Outback route, the gravel is quite loose in places, and the extra flotation of the Switchback Hills gives you more speed and security when the going gets really rough. 30% of the Oregon Outback is on pavement, so we designed this tire to roll as fast and grip as well as a good racing tire. The tread has enough thickness in the center to last many miles, but it’s thin and supple on the shoulders where it doesn’t wear. With this tire, you truly have the best of both worlds. In their 2024 Buyer’s Guide, road.cc rated the Switchback Hill the “Best 650B road bike tyre.” They wrote: “At just 412g per tyre; the extralight casing is super supple and soaks up tarmac miles with no obvious penalty over something much, much narrower. The P Zero Race TLR is the most performing tire in Pirelli’s portfolio, as well as being the first tire with a tubeless technology entirely made in Italy. The design features SpeedCore technology in a 120tpi casing, utilizing a layer of compound mixed with aramid that covers the inner layer of the tire, improving the smoothness and the resistance of the rubber. The result is a less stiff, but faster tire.
