Castelli calls this a light jacket but the comfort range is surprising. It dips well into temperatures where you might normally reach for a full protection jacket, yet the surprising breathability makes it still comfortable in temps when you may have worn arm warmers and a vest in the past. And it keeps you dry. RoS stands for Rain or Shine. It’s a label given to Castelli's most advanced products that excel in both dry and wet conditions. For dry conditions, you’re looking for comfort along with breathability to prevent you from getting wet and chilled from the inside. But with wet-weather clothing, you’re looking for protection that will help you stay warm by keeping the rain out and letting sweat escape. The Alpha RoS Light Jacket ticks both of those boxes. Both the front and back materials represent a significant step forward in rain protection. These fabrics are used with reduced seaming, and seam sealing where necessary. Castelli calls this functional waterproofing because while they don’t guarantee that no drop will ever enter the jacket, they promise you that this is their best effort to keep you warm and dry in the widest range of conditions. FUNDAMENTAL LAYER Most of us have used vests for an extra bit of warmth, but often we find they keep the core too hot compared to the protection on the arms. We made this vest as the perfect companion for that 15°C/60°F to 20°C/68°F temperature range. It keeps some of the wind off but allows enough air permeability to keep you well ventilated and dry. It has a DWR finish to help keep out splashes or light rain, and should you want to take it off, it folds to an extremely compact size to make it easy to stash in a jersey pocket. But we don’t think you’ll want to take it off, because the clean technical look will make you stand out on your next group ride, both while you’re towing them all home and when you’re showing off the smartest-looking kit at the coffee stop.
A lightweight packable shell, ideal for stuffing into your pocket in case of rain on those unpredictable days. The Squadra ER jacket will shut out the wind and provide a bit of protection from light rain while still being small enough to pack into your back pocket or seat bag. An essential item for every ride.
